 Sheep Rock-Oregon
California Trail
East of the intersections of SH 34 and US 30, Sheep Rock marked the
junction of the Oregon California Trail and where the Hudspeth
Cutoff diverted from the main Oregon California Trail. In all the
surrounding areas, visitors may be able to find the wagon ruts from
the historic trek west. On Highway 30, visitors will find three
markers with information. A 1931 monument to William Henry Harrison
is located there. Harrison lost his life on the trail. Many emigrant
diaries mentioned Sheep Rock as a landmark on their journey.
Alexander Reservoir and the Oregon Trail Public Park and Marina lie
below Sheep Rock in the photo above.
